The Giving Department

The context

Following the acquisition of Refinitiv, LSEG brought together two established charitable entities, creating an opportunity to strengthen and streamline its global social impact approach.

The challenge

With the merger of Refinitiv Charities and the LSEG Foundation, the team needed a refreshed global strategy and a small number of strategic international partners aligned with its priorities. That meant clarifying objectives and outcomes, ensuring robust partner assessment and due diligence, and creating a coherent approach that could also engage LSEG's c.24,000 employees globally - with a consistent approach to partner risk and governance across multiple geographies.

What we did

We supported the LSEG Foundation team to develop a new global social impact strategy, with the ambition of supporting one million people through economic empowerment programmes focused on education, employment and enterprise. This included:

  • A three-pillar strategic approach (Fund, Engage, Convene): a clear framework for decision-making and programme activation
  • Research and structured assessment of potential global partners: mapping charities and initiatives against strategic fit, capability and delivery reach
  • Proportionate due diligence and risk assessment: covering governance, financial resilience, safeguarding and reputational risk
  • Programme delivery set-up: supporting the selection and onboarding of a grants management platform and the processes to manage global grantmaking and employee engagement
  • Facilitation and advisory support: working closely with internal stakeholders to refine priorities as the merged foundation evolved
